In Loving Memory of Shedrick Mabon Hearn, Jr.
February 20, 1935 – March 07, 2024
Shedrick Mabon Hearn, Jr. was born on February 20, 1935, in Longview, Texas, to Merthie Ford and Shedrick Hearn, Sr. His early life was marked by both joy and sorrow, as he was raised by his paternal grandmother, Lucy Hearn, following the passing of his beloved mother due to a battle with Polio when he was only two years old. The Hearn family later moved to Earlsboro, Oklahoma, where Shedrick received his education in the Seminole Public Schools, ultimately graduating from Seminole High School.
In 1955, Shedrick embarked on a new chapter of his life by joining the United States Navy, where he served with honor and distinction until 1957 when he was honorably discharged. Upon his return to Oklahoma City, Shedrick embraced new opportunities and endeavored to make a difference in his community.
Shedrick's talents extended beyond his military service; he was widely recognized in the Oklahoma City area for his remarkable skill in baseball. Whether pitching or hitting long-range home runs, Shedrick's passion for the sport was evident to all who had the pleasure of witnessing his prowess on the field.
Beyond the diamond, Shedrick was an accomplished self-taught musician, mastering both the piano and guitar. His love for music and poetry was undeniable, and he even ventured into the realm of rap, leaving a lasting impression with his lyrical talents.
Shedrick's memory will be forever cherished by his children: Kenneth (Evelyn) of Grand Prairie, TX; Jan of Austin, TX; Ramona of Oklahoma City; Timothy of Oklahoma City; Cedric (Dionna) of Grand Prairie, TX; Ronnie of Oklahoma City; Jermaine of Oklahoma City; his sister, Deborah Glover of Del City, Oklahoma; and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As we bid farewell to Shedrick Mabon Hearn, Jr., we take solace in the enduring impact he has left on our lives and the legacy of love and talent he leaves behind. May his spirit continue to inspire us all.
